“There once was a rich
man, expensively dressed in the latest fashions, wasting his days
in conspicuous consumption. A poor man named Lazarus, covered with
sores, had been dumped on his doorstep. All he lived for was to get
a meal from scraps off the rich man’s table. His best friends were
the dogs who came and licked his sores.
“Then he died, this poor man, and was taken up by the angels to the
lap of Abraham. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell and
in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham in the distance and
Lazarus in his lap. He called out, ‘Father Abraham, mercy! Have
mercy! Send Lazarus to dip his finger in water to cool my tongue.
I’m in agony in this fire.’
“But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that in your lifetime you got
the good things and Lazarus the bad things. It’s not like that
here. Here he’s consoled and you’re tormented. Besides, in all
these matters there is a huge chasm set between us so that no one
can go from us to you even if he wanted to, nor can anyone cross
over from you to us.’
“The rich man said, ‘Then let me ask you, Father: Send him to the
house of my father where I have five brothers, so he can tell them
the score and warn them so they won’t end up here in this place of
torment.’
“Abraham answered, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets to tell them
the score. Let them listen to them.’
“‘I know, Father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but they’re not listening. If
someone came back to them from the dead, they would change their
ways.’
“Abraham replied, ‘If they won’t listen to Moses and the Prophets,
they’re not going to be convinced by someone who rises from the
dead.’” Read

Luke 16:1
(ESVS)
He also said to the disciples, “There was a rich man
who had a manager, and charges
were brought to him that this man was wasting his
possessions. 2 And he called him and
said to him, ‘What is this that I hear about you? Turn in the
account of your management, for you can
no longer be manager.’ 3 And the manager said to
himself, ‘What shall I do, since my master is taking the management
away from me? I am not strong enough to dig, and I am ashamed to
beg. 4 I have decided what to
do, so that when I am removed from management, people may receive
me into their houses.’ 5 So, summoning his
master’s debtors one by one, he said to the first, ‘How much do you
owe my master?’ 6 He said, ‘A hundred
measures of oil.’ He said to him,
‘Take your bill, and sit down quickly and write fifty.’
7
Then he said
to another, ‘And how much do you owe?’ He said, ‘A hundred
measures of wheat.’ He said to
him, ‘Take your bill, and write eighty.’ 8 The master commended the
dishonest manager for his shrewdness. For
the sons of
this world are more shrewd in dealing
with their own generation than the sons of
light. 9 And I tell you,
make friends
for yourselves by means of unrighteous
wealth, so that when it fails
they may receive you into the eternal dwellings.
Luke 16:10
(ESVS)
“One who is
faithful in
a very little is also faithful in much, and one who is dishonest in
a very little is also dishonest in much. 11 If then you have not
been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you
the true riches? 12 And if you have not been
faithful in that which is another’s,
who will give you that which is your own? 13 No servant can serve two
masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he
will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve
God and money.” Read

Luke 15:1
(ESV)
Now the tax collectors and
sinners were all drawing near to hear him. 2 And the Pharisees and
the scribes grumbled, saying, “This
man receives sinners and eats with them.”
Luke 15:3
(ESV)
So he told them this parable: 4 “What man of you, having
a hundred sheep, if he has lost one of them, does not leave the
ninety-nine in the open country,
and go after the one that is
lost, until he finds it? 5 And when he has found
it, he lays it on his shoulders, rejoicing. 6 And when he comes home,
he calls together his friends and his neighbours, saying to them,
‘Rejoice with me, for I have found my sheep
that was lost.’ 7 Just so, I tell you,
there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who
repents than
over ninety-nine righteous persons who
need no repentance.
Luke 15:8
(ESV)
“Or what woman, having
ten silver coins, if she loses one coin,
does not light a lamp and sweep the house and seek diligently until
she finds it? 9 And when she has found
it, she calls together her friends and neighbours, saying, ‘Rejoice
with me, for I have found the coin that I had lost.’
10
Just so, I
tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over
one sinner who repents.” Read
